Exercising With Health Challenges @ Live Well Langley

We’ve posted a number of videos lately about different ways to get moving and active. But what if you have health challenges like diabetes, heart disease or obesity?

It would be nice to go somewhere where they have the tools to safely monitor you while creating an exercise program that takes all those things into consideration. Fortunately we have a Live Well exercise clinic in Langley that does exactly that. Dr. Freedman had heard many great things about Live Well from our patients so he took a trip up 64th to meet with Sarah, owner and CEO to talk about creating an exercise program when you have health challenges.

Are you interested in getting started with exercise but worried that your health problems might stand in the way? I'm Dr. Jody Freedman, a chiropractor at Willowbrook Chiropractic here in Langley. Today, I'm at Live Well Exercise Clinic in Langley, joined by Sarah Gilbert, CEO and founder of Live Well. We will talk about how you can get healthier even if you have diabetes, obesity, or different types of heart conditions.

Some Key Points:

  • It is so common for people to be a little scared to get started with exercise, usually because they don't really know what exercises they should be doing at what intensity.

  • To be successful with exercise we need:

    • Accountability: At LiveWell clients have an appointment with exercise and their supervising exercise physiologist.

    • Expert guidance: People want to know that they're working with a healthcare professional who can help give them exercises suitable for them.

    • Supervision: People want to know that not only are they getting good exercise, but they're supervised every time they come.

  • What modifications need to be made for someone with back or neck pain when they're approaching exercise.

LiveWell is offering a free 1 hr introductory session where you will meet with an exercise physiologist, and see what exercises would be appropriate for you. You can book this at livewellclinic.ca.

And as always, if you have some back or neck pain, maybe some shoulder pain holding you back from exercising Dr. Freedman or Dr. Robin Armstrong can help.
