3 Ways to stay fit Indoors in Langley this Winter.

Are you struggling to keep active once the rain starts? Do you want to keep walking but don’t love the heavy rain, darkness & slippery snow? We’re Dr. Jody Freedman & Dr. Robin Armstrong, chiropractors at Willowbrook Chiropractic in Langley and today we’re going to talk about the many options we have in Langley to keep active inside this winter.

Option 1 - Walking Indoors:

If you want to keep it simple, our #1 approach to keep people moving is to encourage more walking. Unfortunately once the rain, darkness and cold sets in we see our patients reducing their walking significantly. Those with dogs are often still taking them for walks, but unless you have a really focused dog it’s hard to get that consistent movement and elevated heart rate that is needed to benefit your body & heart. Some people enjoy walking on a treadmill, but a lot of people would rather walk on a track or similar.

Here is 4 options for walking indoors in Langley this winter :

  1. Timms Centre: $25 annual Games & Track Pass required or pay per use. 6-10am M-F, 8-6 Sa, 8-8 Su. 604-514-2940

  2. Langley Events Centre: $10 annual registration fee. Generally open 9-3 M-F. 604-882-8800.

  3. Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre: Hours 6:30am - 6 or 8pm - Current Hours. 604-857-4299

  4. Willowbrook Mall Walking Club: Mon-Fri. Call the mall concierge at 604-530-4492 for more information.

Option 2 - Langley / East Surrey Indoor Pools: [Swimming, Water Walking, Aquafit]

We are fortunate to have 3 pools right in the Langley, and a few more close by in Surrey. Most people think swimming when they think of pools, but a lot of our patients also water walk or attend aquafit classes, which are also great ways to keep the body moving. All the pools have open swim and aquafit times every day. Check out the schedule links below.

Fees: About $7 for an adult or $5 for a senior to drop in, but they also have 10 or 20 packs or monthly memberships which can drop that cost. We’ve done the math for you and if you are willing to commit to 3 days a week, a monthly pass makes the most sense. If you are going only 2 times a week, your better off sticking to a 10 or 20 pack.

Langley Pool Locations:

  1. East: Aldergrove Credit Union Pool

  2. West: Tong Louie Family YMCA (Clayton),

  3. North: Walnut Grove Pool

  4. South: W.C. Blair Pool, Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre (S. Surrey)

*** A reminder for all our patients, but especially those with low bone density or osteoporosis is although pool time is great for our health, you also need to be doing weight bearing and resistance exercise to make sure you keep your bones strong. Fortunately, all the pools also have gyms, and that same pass allows you access to those facilities as well.

Option 3 - Gyms & Community Centres: [Weights, Cardio, Group Classes, Personal Training]

We are fortunate to have so many great community centres, gyms and small group fitness studios in Langley. It’s hard to list them all but here is a good start:

If your injuries are keeping you from exercising, book an appointment with us, chiropractors Dr. Robin Armstrong or Dr. Jody Freedman. We’ll figure out the problem and guide you back to exercising safely.
